Organisers of the Edinburgh International Book Festival are to welcome Nobel Prize winning Turkish author Orhan Pamuk to Edinburgh. Appearing as part of the Festival’s Booked! programme, the novelist will discuss his latest novel, The Red-Haired Woman on Sunday 17 September.
The Booked! event is supported by funds from the People’s Postcode Lottery. Nick Barley, director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, said: "We are thrilled to welcome this world-renowned novelist to Edinburgh this autumn. After a record breaking year of growth in all areas this August, we are excited we can continue to give audiences the opportunity to see important writers out-with the busy summer season, thanks to the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery.”
Orhan Pamuk, won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2006, and is his first appearance at the Book Festival since 2001. He will speak at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on September 17.

A series of musical galas to celebrate the music of Johann Strauss is to tour to Scotland. The concerts will include the Blue Danube Waltz and the Radetxky March and several more waltzes and polkas.
The music will be provided by the Strauss Orchestra which will be accompanied by the Strauss Dancers, and will be introduced and conducted by John Rigby. The events are directed and choreographed by Alexandra Worrall. It will be at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on January 6 and Edinburgh's Usher Hall on January 7.

Edinburgh’s Playtime jazz sessions return this Thursday, September 14, with DJ Dolphin Boy as the special guest. The sound mixer, who has worked extensively with folk and traditional music, made a popularly acclaimed appearance at Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival in July and will join Playtime regulars Martin Kershaw (reeds), Graeme Stephen (guitar) and Tom Bancroft (drums) in a spontaneous session. Playtime hosts sessions fortnightly in the Outhouse in Broughton Street Lane and the music starts at 8pm.

Singer-songwriters Karine Polwart, Emma Pollock, Rab Noakes and Kim Edgar and members of Teenage Fanclub, Belle and Sebastian, the Pearlfishers and BMX Bandits are among the musicians lined up to appear in A Concert for Stewart, a celebration of the life of radio producer Stewart Cruickshank, who died suddenly in November 2015.
Cruickshank gave countless musicians their first radio plays and enriched the lives of music lovers of all stripes throughout Scotland and beyond with his knowledge and music choices on BBC Radio Scotland programmes from Beat Patrol to the Iain Anderson Show.
The concert will take place at Saint Luke’s, Glasgow on Friday, November 24 and will raise funds for Drake Music Scotland. stlukesglasgow.com
