CELTIC fan Sir Rod Stewart says it is good to see Rangers improving as it has been ‘too easy’ for the Scottish champions of late.

The Bhoys secured the title without losing a game last season, finishing 30 points clear of nearest rivals Aberdeen.

And the singer told TalkSport host Jim White, who he called out as a ‘bluenose’, that he would welcome an improved challenge from the Light Blues.

“It’s great to see Rangers coming back and I hope you give us a good game up at Ibrox,” he said.

When asked if Celtic need Rangers and vice-versa, Stewart replied: “Absolutely, and we need Hibs and we need Hearts. I can’t stand it when it’s too easy for us.”

Stewart will be in attendance when Brendan Rodgers’ side open their Champions League campaign against Paris Saint-Germain at Parkhead tonight and is hoping for some good fortune if they are to cause an upset.

“We’ll give a good account of ourselves and if they play three up front and nick a goal, the place will explode,” he said.

“I wish we had one more defender, I think we’re good up front, we’ve got a flood of midfield players.

“We may be a bit shaky at the back, we’ve got a great goalkeeper but we need a little bit of luck tonight – let’s be honest.”

“(The Champions League theme tune) sends a shiver down the spine. And when the Green Brigade start singing…I’m nearly in tears already!”

He also explained the story behind how he became a Celtic supporter, saying: “A lot of people ask me ‘why do you support a Scottish team when you were born in London?’

“Well my dad was born in Edinburgh, he was a Hibs supporter, and I met Jock Stein in 1974 with Kenny Dalglish and sort of became a Celtic supporter then.

“It’s because…it’s really indescribable, it’s such a family, it runs so deep. You know, all around the world, I’m sure every football supporter thinks their club is the same, but there’s something about our team, it’s just a family.”
