Hoops keeper Craig Gordon has insisted that Neymar earned the right to do whatever he likes at Celtic Park this week.

The Paris-Saint Germain player refused to shake hands with Celtic teenager Anthony Ralston in the aftermath of a game in which he had something of a running feud with the player throughout.

But Gordon has shrugged off the player's arrogance in the aftermath of what proved to be a disappointing night.

“I didn’t even notice that,” said the keeper in regards to the snub to Celtic's rookie defender.

“It doesn’t really matter. He is a good player and he can do what he likes. It is up to him. We didn’t stop him playing so he has got the last laugh; he is away home with a 5-0 victory so it doesn’t matter whose hand he shakes after that, it is entirely up to him.”

And Gordon has tipped Ralston to pick over the remnants of the game and his education against Neymar as he looks to cement his place in the Celtic first-team.

“I thought Tony did alright,” said the Scotland internationalist. “It was always going to be a massive ask for him but he has tried to get stuck in and make some tackles.

“He is an aggressive player, he wants to win his challenges and he is a strong, physical boy. He left his mark early and it is a great thing for him at this stage in his career and he will learn from that. I am sure he will watch it back a few times and he the kind of boy who wants to learn. He has got a lot to look forward to but that is massive for him to play in this environment so early in his career.”

Asked is Celtic had played against a team last night who are capable of going on and winning the Champions League this season, Gordon agreed.

“Absolutely,” he said.

“They have put together an amazing squad and there isn’t a weakness anywhere to try to exploit. We had to try and hang in and keep it as tight as we could for as long as we could but sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say they were too good.

“They were very good. We are a bit disappointed we didn’t make it more difficult for them but you have to accept that they are an excellent team and we couldn’t get close enough to close them down. We didn’t do as well as we would have hoped but they are a world-class team and they done a job on us.”

And Gordon now has insisted that Celtic need to move on in order to absorb what they can from the game.

There was no real surprise about the gulf between the sides but the meekness of Celtic’s fight, particularly in the opening half, is something that the Parkhead side will look to resolve.

“We have to look to get a result against Anderlecht,” said Gordon. “We’ll watch it back and we’ll go again. We have to. The next game is massive for us so we have to pick ourselves up pretty quickly.”
