LOCH Fyne Oysters has become the first company worldwide to receive an Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Bivalve Standard Certification for responsible farming of blue mussels.

The ASC standard is a globally recognised certification promoting responsible and ethical farming of seafood.

Loch Fyne Oysters have been producing mussels grown on ropes in Loch Roag on the Isle of Lewis for the past 20 years.

The ASC certification standard requires seafood farmers to meet performance indicators assessing both technical and social compliances including demonstrating responsible farming that does not have adverse impact on the surrounding environment and ethical social practices.

James Withers, chief executive of Scotland Food & Drink, said: “This recognises the hard work of the Loch Fyne Oysters team and showcases the world-class standards which Scotland’s producers operate under, and helps build our global reputation.”
