THE Spree festival is back for a sixth consecutive year with some of the biggest names in Scottish music, comedy and entertainment, including a sold-out homecoming show from Paolo Nutini.

The twelve-day festival will see dozens of events take place throughout Paisley between October 13 and 24.

The Spree is taking place as part of the push towards Paisley's bid to be UK City of Culture 2021.

This year’s line-up includes a show from Frightened Rabbit, who are collaborating with The Royal Scottish National Orchest for a gig at Paisley Abbey.

This year’s festival will be kicking off with a twist, opening with a celebration of twin festival, the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) one of India’s most prestigious festivals.

Other acts on the bill include Dougie McLean, Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards, the Pictish Trail, Emma Pollock and RM Hubbert, and a show where James Grant explores Paisley's Untold Story.

Music in West Kilbride has announced its autumn programme.

Dutch swing violinist Tim Kliphuis brings his trio with guitarist Nigel Clark and bassist Roy Percy to the North Ayrshire town on Friday, October 20, with saxophonist Tommy Smith’s dedication to saxophone colossus John Coltrane, Tommy Smith Quartet: Embodying the Light following on Friday, October 27. Young chamber ensemble Thistlebrass feature on Friday, November 17.

All concerts take place in West Kilbride Village Hall and begin at 7:30pm.

Eyemouth Hippodrome continues to bring an international music programme to the Berwickshire port. Torch bearers of Captain Beeheart’s idiosyncratic music Orange Claw Hammer appear at the venue on Friday, October 14, with guitarist Nigel Price and saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos co-leading a top line London jazz group on October 21. South Africa-born pianist Philip Clouts’ quartet appears on October 28 as part of its tenth anniversary UK tour and early visitors during November include fiddler-guitar partnership Eilidh Shaw & Ross Martin and violinist Jyotsna Srikanth’s Indo-jazz group Bangalore Dreams.

Benderloch Bookends Book Festival continues in the Argyll village’s community hall until Saturday [September 30], with a fringe carrying on until October 6. Now in its second year the festival includes author presentations, song and story sessions for children as well as readings, workshops and a quiz. A reading room is open every day for browsing, tea and conversation from 3:30 – 6:30pm and the fringe offers film, board games, informal talks and an introduction to shamanic practice.
