CRISP and ice cream supplier Mackie’s Of Scotland has confirmed a new contract with Asda to supply two brand-new flavours of popcorn to the supermarket chain.

The new deal with the Perth-based producer is the latest in a seven-year long relationship and will see the two newest editions, sweet and toffee coated popcorn, stocked in 50 Asda store’s across the country.

The decision for Mackie’s to expand its popcorn range comes after data suggests the one-time cinema favourite is now a market worth more than £135.8m that last year grew by 13.6 per cent.

James Taylor, commercial director at Mackie’s Crisps, said: “After seeing the success of the first two flavours of popcorn we launched we decided it was time to expand our range. We looked for inspiration from existing Mackie’s products to decide on the sweet and toffee-coated variants and look forward to adding further sales to the popcorn category within Asda Scotland.”

“Not only has our partnership with Asda helped to increase our product range and availability, it has also helped us expand on our local recruitment with now over 46 employees based at our production factory in Errol.”

Mackie’s was the first major Scottish brand to enter the popcorn market and has introduced new customers to the brand through expanding their product portfolio with popcorn,.

Regional buying manager at Asda Heather Turnbull added: “The new popcorn listing makes a fine addition to our already substantial Mackie’s offering.”
