WOOD Group has sold the North American nuclear power engineering business it acquired through the £2.2 billion takeover of Amec Foster Wheeler last month for around Canadian $10 million (£6m).

Aberdeen-based Wood Group sold the unit, which has operations in the USA and Canada and a small business in Romania, to the Kinectrics engineering business.

Amec Foster Wheeler said in March that it was seeking buyers for its nuclear business.

In June the firm announced it had decided in consultation with Wood Group to retain its European nuclear business but to proceed with the disposal of the North American operation.

Led by chief executive Robin Watson, Wood acquired Amec Foster Wheeler to help broaden the range of engineering services it provides and reduce its reliance on the North Sea market.
