Tom Rogic is expected to get a pass for Saturday’s jaunt north with Celtic as he finds his feet after a globetrotting week.

The Australian internationalist played his part in getting his country to the World Cup next summer, a tournament where there will be a few familiar faces for him.

Mikael Lustig is still celebrating after helped Sweden to knock Italy out of the running while Cristian Gamboa will also be a Celtic representative in Russia this summer.

“It’s brilliant,” enthused Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers. “I’m really happy for Tom Rogic. It makes all the effort of travelling around the world each time worth it. He’s going to get to a World Cup, having missed out on the last one in Brazil.

“For Mika, that was amazing for Sweden. He thoroughly deserves it. To beat Italy over two games was great.

“Cristian Gamboa is also there with Costa Rica, Denmark are through so there’s a chance for Erik Sviatchenko as well.

“It’s the pinnacle of an international career so I’m really delighted for the guys who have a chance to go.”

For those few Celtic players who were not involved with their respective countries over the last fortnight, they have been given the chance to recharge their batteries.

Scott Brown was away with Scotland but didn’t play,” said Rodgers. “There weren’t too many who weren’t away in one way or another.

“But they have all come back and are happy. We have created a mentality here that they enjoy being around. They will get ready from Saturday to push on in this next phase of games.

“Some have had a rest but others played and were happy to play for their countries.”
