POWER cuts affected people on the Rosneath peninsula on two separate occasions in the last week.

The first, on Friday, December 29, was caused by a fault at the sub-station in the centre of Rosneath itself.

Firefighters attended the substation at the junction of Argyll Road and Ferry Road after the alarm was raised by residents; one report on social media said the substation was "popping, sparking and banging".

In a statement to residents, posted on their website on Friday afternoon, SP Energy Networks said: “It was necessary for us to remove power in your local area this afternoon at 4.07pm to make emergency repairs to damaged electrical equipment.

“The supply to your property may be affected by this work and we intend to have your supply restored by 6.15am.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.”

Not all homes on the Peninsula were affected, with some people reporting that while power was off in parts of Rosneath and in Kilcreggan, the power stayed on in other areas of Rosneath, and also in Cove.

In the end supplies were restored to all properties in the area by around 9pm on Friday.

But that wasn't the end of the power supply problems: the high winds of Storm Dylan on Sunday morning affected several homes and businesses in both the G84 and G83 postcode areas as well as in parts of Greenock.

In a statement, SP Energy Networks said Sunday's power cut was due to a fault on the company's overhead line network "due to the extreme high winds".

Power was restored by 2pm on Sunday.
