THE local creators of an award-winning range of artisan gins are celebrating after their plans to build a new distillery were given the green light.

Cameron McCann, from Garelochhead, and his wife June, who hails from Luss, are looking forward to setting up Stirling Gin’s first self-owned production premises in the Lower Castlehill area of the historic town after Stirling Council officials gave the project planning permission.

The couple plan to invest around £150,000 in their new distillery and visitor centre, providing eight new jobs in the process.

Mr McCann said: “To get the final green-light from Stirling Council’s planning department that we can proceed with our plans for the Old Smiddy is just the best news possible to start the New Year with.

“The Castlehill area is such an historic part of Stirling and I guess it’s maybe appropriate that we are going to be opening up the first ever distillery in the city up there.”

Stirling Gin made the finals in three categories of the 2017 Scottish Gin Society awards, and won the ‘best start-up business’ accolade at the Forth Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards.

The company also took the People’s Choice award at the 2016 Country Living Fair in Glasgow.
