A GARELOCHHEAD woman who attacked a police officer called to a report of a disturbance at her home has been ordered to carry out unpaid community work as a punishment.

Jane Methvin, 50, of Upland Road, appeared in court for sentencing on January 5 after she admitted attempting to headbutt the officer in the street outside her home on October 22.

Methvin also pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering offensive remarks at her home address on the same day.

She originally faced a further accusation of assaulting her partner by kicking him on the head, but her plea of not guilty to that charge was accepted by prosecutors.

Sheriff William Gallacher told Methvin: “Your behaviour was not appropriate or acceptable at all.

"I’m not so concerned that I need to impose a draconian sanction, but you’re not a teenager any more, and ought not to be coming before the court as you have in recent times for behaviour of this type.

“If you do not take the advice and support given to you, and you are back before me again, the only option will be a sanction where you lose your liberty.”

In addition to a punishment of 120 hours of work, to be carried out within eight months, Methvin was also told she would be under social work supervision for a year.
