1. IN the build up to this one, Russell Martin said he was playing for his own Rangers future. In truth, he probably wasn't the only one.
The on-loan Norwich City man didn't do himself any favours with a calamitous clearance which gifted Callum McGregor the chance to make it 2-0. Over the piece he was not the worst offender in a blue jersey, but it certainly didn't help his case for a permanent deal.
One must also wonder about the future of Andy Halliday, too, after his early departure and bench blow up.
2. His central defensive partner for the day, Ross McCrorie, has gained plenty of plaudits over his 20 first-team games this season already. Indeed, this is already his third Old Firm game and he acquitted himself well in the previous two.
Having said that, at Hampden he was all at sea. He was turned far too easily by Tom Rogic for Celtic's opener while he allowed Moussa Dembele to win the personal battle between the pair too many times.
A poor afternoon was rounded off with his red card for giving away the decisive third. He deserves his praise, but this is perhaps a reality check to those believing the youngster is close to being the finished article.
3. Anyone who reckons Craig Gordon is passed it would have their gas put at a peep if they watched this. The veteran goalkeeper, who will turn 36 this year, was at his acrobatic best in the second half as Rangers pushed for a way back into the game. Two fingertip stops to deny Alfredo Morelos and Bruno Alves within a minute were stunning, while his on the line block from Morelos a few minutes later topped it off.
4. On that miss, Morelos. Some would say he was due one after his glaring miss at Ibrox last month when the two teams last met. This one was perhaps just as bad.
While the sitter in the 3-2 game which came back off the post was glaring, you could at least say it came to him quickly. Here, he seemed to have the freedom of Hampden to pick his spot after Mikael Lustig's clearance came back off the bar, but all he could do was hit the ball off Gordon.
At 21 Morelos will get better, but if he wants to be a Rangers player, and a big game Rangers player, he has to find a clinical and consistent edge . And quickly.
5. Dembele is cooler than an Eskimo's fridge. A panenka penalty in an Old Firm game. Surely a first.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
