A 29-YEAR-old man who was shot by a balaclava-clad gunman in Glasgow while sitting in a car has died in hospital.

Detectives say the incident on Monday night in the Ruchill area of the city is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Kenny Reilly was a passenger in a silver BMW which stopped at traffic lights on Bilsland Drive at 10.30pm.

A black car pulled up and an attacker got out and shot the victim in what police believe was a “targeted attack”.

The attacker then jumped back into the car, which sped off in the direction of Maryhill Road.

A short time later a black people carrier was found burnt-out at Craigieburn Gardens, Maryhill.

Mr Reilly died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Police say extensive forensic examinations have been continuing at Craigieburn Gardens and in Bilsland Drive. Road closures were also in place while police carried out their investigations.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham, of Greater Glasgow division, said on Tuesday: “Whoever is responsible for this shooting clearly has no regard for the safety of those living in this busy residential area and they must be caught.

“We are continuing our inquiries to establish a motive for this crime and although we believe that this was a targeted attack and that the 29-year-old man was the intended victim, we are pursuing all lines of inquiry.”
