KILLER whales dubbed “urban Orcas” have been spotted in the River Clyde.

Members of the public snapped images of the pod, thought to include at least one calf, in waters around Dunoon over the last week.

While it’s not unheard of for the mammals to visit Scottish waters, it is unusual.

One eager snapper, Chris Denovan filmed the whales and uploaded the footage to YouTube, saying he’d seen around six of them.

Travellers on the Dunoon-Gourock ferry crossing took to social media to report sightings of the Orcas, which are thought to have last been seen in the area 30 years ago.

The Clyde Porpoise Marine Mammal Project said it had alerted staff at Faslane naval base about the visitors to try and avoid the pod becoming spooked by any naval exercises.
