THERE'S no word yet if Dennis the Menace is going to trade in his famous red and black striped jumper for Stella McCartney's new collection of clothes based on the characters from the Beano.

The fashion designer is an international star but she's not forgotten growing up on the Mull of Kintyre and her latest range of children's clothes is inspired by Scotland's Beano comic.

Ms McCartney, who spent holidays in Kintyre with her parents Paul and the late Linda, launched her first fashion collection in 2001 and now operates in 77 countries.

Her family holds a special relationship with the Dundee comics, first recorded when her Beatle father declared in 1963 that his life ambition was to feature in the famous comics. His dream came true in 2012 when he made a cameo feature in The Beano's sister comic The Dandy’s final issue, and the designer created a range of women's clothes inspired by The Dandy last year.

Ms McCartney said: “We were keen to celebrate the next generation of Beano fans with a sustainable and practical range for kids who still share that Beano spirit of these iconic characters.”

The designer, a mother of four, added: “The Beano was a huge part of my childhood and the rebellious and fun nature celebrated in the comic led the design process of the new collection.”

The range is composed of 40 designs available in sizes new-born to 14+ years. Each of the garments feature characters including Minnie The Minx, Korky the Cat, Cuddles & Dimples and Dinah Mo.

Emma Scott, at Beano Studios, said: “Stella has a brilliant understanding of our Beano characters and their bold personalities. In this new range, Stella brings famous Beano and Dandy heroes to life in a new and dynamic way, which connect with Beano children of today.”

Prices range from £38- £155. The collaboration will be available to purchase from www.stellamccartney.com and selected stores from June.
