Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has received a special good luck message ahead of Saturday’s Champions League Final – from the world-famous stadium 1,500 miles away where his career was launched.
Hampden Park, Scotland’s National Stadium and the Home of Scottish Football, displayed “From Hampden to Kyiv – Good Luck Andy Robertson” on its big screens throughout Thursday and Friday in tribute to the Scotland star.
Robertson has a strong connection with Hampden, having worked there in his youth and then launching his club career with Queen’s Park in season 2012/13. His meteoric rise since is the stuff of legend and he has returned to the stadium to represent Scotland many times since, earning 20 caps to date overall.

This Saturday the 24-year-old Glaswegian will play in the biggest game of his life so far as Liverpool and Real Madrid face off in the UEFA Champions League Final in Kyiv, with the Tartan Army becoming Andy’s Army for the night thanks to the involvement of ‘one of their own’.
Peter Dallas, Hampden Park managing director, said: “Everyone at Hampden takes great pride when we see Andy performing so incredibly well at such a high level, especially as we all know how much hard work he has put in to get there. From his time at Hampden both working and playing, we know what a fantastic role model he is for his fellow Scots and especially for young people to look up to.
“So our special Good Luck message is a small gesture to let him know that we are all rooting for him on Saturday and it reflects the high regard everyone at Hampden has for Andy and his family.
“Real Madrid also hold a special place in Hampden hearts of course. What many consider the greatest final of all time - the 7-3 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in 1960 - and the greatest goal in any European final, Zinedine Zidane’s spectacular volley in 2002 – were both played at Scotland’s National Stadium.
“Saturday’s final, between two of the most iconic football clubs in the world, has the potential to create more special memories and we only hope it’s the classic it deserves to be. Good luck Andy and may the best team win!”
