BBC commentator Danny Murphy has been criticised for 'biased' commentary during England’s 6-1 World Cup victory over Panama.

The former footballer who was summariser for the Auld Enemy's game second Group G game has been at the centre of the complaints to the BBC through social media about his use of the word "we" when mentioning England.

The former England star was also slammed for his monotone delivery while the 'controversy' meant his name was trending on Twitter.

One Twitter user called his co-commentary “absolute garbage”, with another urging the BBC to “get rid” of the 41-year-old.

“Dear BBC Sport. Can you asked Danny Murphy to stop referring to England as ‘we’ seeing as you’re a UK based channel and he should be an unbiased commentator,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another Twitter user said: “Danny Murphy: ‘We we we...’ The BBC: impartial broadcasting.’”

Others came to the former Liverpool star's defence, arguing it would be normal for him to favour England.

Sam Plackett said: "Why is Danny Murphy being biased an issue? He’s an Englishman commentating on an England game for English TV for Christ's sake!"

Steve Lynes added: "I might not be Danny Murphy's biggest fan but I have no problem with him calling England 'we. He's English deal with it!"
