A HONDURAN baby who had been kept for months in the custody of the US Government did not recognise his parents when they were reunited.

Johan, who grabbed the world's attention when he appeared in a US courtroom in a nappy, at first did not remember his mother and father after he was flown to San Pedro Sula.

The parents were reintroduced to their son on Friday after being separated from the 15-month-old five months ago. He has since taken his first steps, grown a full set of teeth and spoken for the first time.

His mother Adalicia Montecinos spoke with outrage at the treatment her family has endured, saying: "He suffered everything that we have been suffering."

His father Rolando Antonio Bueso Castillo added: ""I never thought they could be so cruel."
