The Scots husband of singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae died from a suspected drug overdose, an inquest heard yesterday.

Police found the body of Aberdeen-born Jason Rae, 31, a saxophonist with funk band the Haggis Horns, at a flat in the Hyde Park area of Leeds on Saturday afternoon.

At yesterday's opening of the inquest into his death, a coroner heard how a pathologist had formed the preliminary conclusion Mr Rae had died from a suspected drugs overdose. But he said it was an interim report after a post-mortem examination and further tests were needed.

The inquest at Leeds Coroner's Court heard how the results of toxicology tests were still unknown.

Detective Superintendent Steve Payne told the hearing he had arrested a 32-year-old man at the scene in connection with the possession and supply of controlled drugs.

A post-mortem found no signs of violence or injury to his body.

Deputy Assistant Coroner Robert Chapman said the pathologist's report pointed to a "suspected drugs overdose".

The coroner adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed to allow further inquiries.
