OLD VERULAMIANS powered their way into the last 16 of the Powergen Intermediate Cup with an impressive 18-8 victory over London Division Two South opponents, Old Mid-Whitgiftians.

An aggressive performance provided the platform for the victory and with this win, to reach this stage for the third time in their history, they erased memories of last weeks painful defeat against Old Albanians.

However, Old Mids started the stronger and took the lead with a penalty on 20 minutes although Vees came storming back and a number of successive rucks pushed the ball out wide with Connor Kinnear waiting to go over.

Tawhara converted and added another penalty soon after to give Vees a 10-3 lead going into the break.

With Vees defending their lead into the second half, Old Mids gradually came back into the game and scored a try of their own after a quickly taken penalty and dive over.

Vees upped a gear though and their exciting attacking play led to a run-in by Ollie Gardner to seal the victory.
