A 23-year-old Uber driver has been charged after he allegedly stabbed a passenger multiple times because he felt the man showed disrespect for his vehicle.
Bloomfield Township Police Department officers responded to a 911 call around 1:30 a.m. ET Saturday stating that a person had been stabbed during a fight in the shopping center parking lot about 20 miles northwest of Detroit in this suburb of Pontiac, Mich. Police found two men fighting in the back seat of a 2012 Honda Civic and discovered that one of them, a 49-year-old Beverly Hills, Mich., man had multiple stab wounds to his chest, back and face, according to a news release from the department.
The driver, Jacob Matthew Allemon, 23, of Berkley, Mich., was arrested immediately.
Police said the victim and his wife, who are not being identified because they are crime victims, had requested an Uber pickup for a ride home from a holiday party and Allemon accepted the request. When the victim tapped on the car's window to alert Allemon that they were entering the vehicle, the driver allegedly felt that his vehicle was being disrespected because of the tapping, according to police.
Allemon drove about a mile before pulling into the shopping center parking lot and ordering the victim out of the car. The man asked if he and his wife could wait for another Uber vehicle because of a snowstorm in progress, according to police.
The two men began to fight, and Allemon stabbed the passenger multiple times. The victim was able to disarm Allemon and restrain him until police arrived, police said.
The victim was transported to the Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where he was treated and then released the next day.
Allemon was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and was arraigned Sunday. He was given a $250,000 bond.
His next court date is pending with the 48th District Court, according to the police department.
An Uber driver was charged in February with carrying out a mass shooting in the Kalamazoo, Mich., area that left six people dead and two others critically wounded. In that case, police said Uber driver Jason Dalton picked up passengers and dropped them off in between randomly shooting other people over a four-hour period.
