Joseph Ramage, 39, smashed his victim 34-year-old Stewart Barrett over the head with a glass, fracturing his skull and causing massive bleeding.
The attack took place in Ramage's Kirkintilloch home in November last year. But instead of getting help for the dying Mr Stewart, a father-of-three, Ramage enlisted the help of Paul McManus, 33, to help dispose of the body in woods near to Carron Valley reservoir in Stirlingshire, where it was found by a dog walker.
After disposing of the body Ramage and McManus decorated the living room and hallway of the house.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Ramage was convicted of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. McManus received five years for helping Ramage to cover up the murder.
