David Clark, 48, allegedly stole six cars after conning the owners into handing over the keys.
In three cases he is accused of offering to sell cars for commission and getting the owners to sign the logbooks into his name.
Clark, of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, is said to have taken another vehicle after pretending it was a trade-in and that he would clear outstanding finance.
He is accused of obtaining another car by paying with a cheque that bounced and allegedly took a sixth after offering to service it.
He denies eight charges of fraud at David Clark Car Sales in Kilmarnock between last year and this.
He was given bail at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for trial in February.
