Concern over prison drug smuggling

The high rate of smuggling of drugs, mobile phones and weapons in Scotland’s jails is a serious cause for concern, a report by the chief inspector of prisons has said.

Brigadier Hugh Monro, in his first report since becoming chief inspector last year, highlighted the significant number of prisoners testing positive for drugs on release as an indicator of problematic levels of substance abuse and security breaches in prison.
