Court text reminder plan

A text scheme to remind people to go to court and give evidence is being expanded across Scotland.

Witnesses failing to attend is a common reason for trial delays, so Crown Agent Catherine Dyer said the initiative was a "simple but effective" way of ensuring more cases go ahead.

The scheme is being rolled out across Scotland after a pilot project introduced by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in January resulted in text messages being sent to those who were due to give evidence at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
