A FORMER RAF officer has been jailed for a string of historic sex offences against young boys, the air force has said.

Eddie Graham, a former RAF technician, was jailed for 13 years after he was convicted of abusing children aged between five and 14 at RAF Gatow in the 1980s.

He had pleaded guilty to 16 counts of indecency with a child and was found guilty by a military panel of another seven offences at a court martial in Bulford, Wiltshire, on October 9.

Investigations centred on around 11 individuals who may have been his victims. The offences took place at RAF Gatow in Berlin between 1981 and 1989.

Graham left the RAF about 10 years ago and will now remain on the sex offenders' register for life.

The RAF said there are a number of continuing investigations relating to allegations of historical sexual offences at overseas Royal Air Force units between 1960 and 1990. A spokesman said the Royal Air Force Police investigation - codenamed Operation Overfoot - had led to a series of arrests over alleged abuse at RAF Gatow and RAF Wildenrath, both in Germany.

After last month's ruling, Squadron Leader Nicholas Card, Officer Commanding RAF Special Investigations and Intelligence Branch (South), who was the senior investigating officer in the case, said: "This has been a long and detailed investigation and, from the very beginning, our main focus has been and remains on ensuring the victims and their families receive the fullest support throughout this extremely difficult time."
