Fraud charges dropped

A RETIRED solicitor and a former police officer charged in connection with a £500,000 mortgage fraud have had the charges against them dropped.

Walter Ruark, 61, and Owen Hughes, 33, were accused of taking part in a fraudulent scheme involving mortgages on flats in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

The offences were alleged to have taken place between January 22, 2007, and January 31, 2008, at the offices of Gourley McBain solicitors in Carnoustie, Angus, where Ruark had been a partner before he retired.
