Rugby star Kenny Logan was unwittingly sponsored with cash from a multi-million-pound fraud, a court has heard.

Gerald Porter, 51, cheated his firm Greenfield Property Management Limited out of millions of pounds to lead a luxury lifestyle with his wife Jacqui, jurors heard.

The rugby fan spent part of the cash, which came from service charges and ground rent from tenants, on the Wasps team and their winger, Scottish international Kenny Logan.

Mr Logan, husband one of BBC sport presenter Gabby Logan, is expected to give evidence during the trial at Southwark Crown Court.

Porter also donated £100,000 of Greenfield cash to Championship side London Scottish while the west London-based club was struggling financially and in the fourth tier of the English rugby league, said prosecutor Alexandra Felix.

He also used company cash to attend VIP games, sponsor other players and buy them luxurious sports cars, and he used £70,000 to plough into his beloved Wasps, his favourite English team following his move to London from Scotland.

There is no suggestion that Kenny Logan or his wife had any idea that Porter was a fraudster.

Jacqui Porter put through some of the invoices for the clubs and "must have known" that the money did not come from a legitimate source, the court was told.

But the 40-year-old denies any knowledge of her husband's fraud.

Jacqui Porter, of Cherwell Way, Ruislip, west London, denies a single count of concealing or converting the proceeds of crime.

The trial continues.
