Free bed and board not on the menu at Scots jails

Offenders S will not be offered “free bed and board at the taxpayers’ expense”, the Justice Secretary warned yesterday during a visit to a new prison site.

Kenny MacAskill watched as work began on constructing the £100 million, taxpayer-funded HMP Low Moss in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire.

It will have 700 cells for male prisoners and around 300 staff.
