Mrs Methven, 80, was assaulted in Forteviot, in Perthshire, in February 2012. David Methven discovered his mother in her home, slumped in chair. William Kean was ordered to serve at least 22 years in prison after he was found guilty of her murder.
Mr Methven raised an action at the Court of Session in Edinburgh suing Kean for damages. Payment of £160,000 was sought.
A judge was told Kean's wife, who was divorcing him, had paid the murderer a lump sum of about £35,000 as his interest in their marital home, although only about £13,000 remained.
Mr Methven's counsel Michael Stuart made a motion to seek arrestment of the funds which was granted by the judge, Lord Uist.
