One of Scotland's richest criminals has been given a three-month extension in which to sell his luxury home after being ordered to pay back £750,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Jamie "Iceman" Stevenson has struggled to find a buyer for his four-bedroom property in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, despite reducing the price by more than £100,000.

Stevenson, 47, had been blocked in two earlier attempts to sell his house because of suspicions it was his associates who were trying to buy it.

Yesterday, Airdrie Sheriff Court heard there had been no firm offers on the property for nearly a year.

However, the court was told £60,000 had been seized from a company of which Stevenson was a director.

Sheriff Alfred Vannet agreed to the extension without any objections from prosecutors.

Stevenson is selling the property after being ordered to hand over £750,000 under proceeds of crime laws.

He bought the home for £310,000 in 2005 but has now dropped the price to offers over £198,000.

Stevenson was jailed for almost 13 years in 2007 for laundering £1 million. He is serving his sentence in Perth Prison and did not attend yesterday's hearing.

Despite being one of Scotland's richest criminals, Stevenson received £140,000 in legal aid.

He has recently been seen on home visits as he prepares for release.
