Joseph Townsley,63, crashed his Ford Iveco truck through the gates of Frank Baxter's home in Newmains, Lanarkshire, in May 2012.
The self styled 'King of the Gypsies' was arrested and charged with murder after Mr Baxter died: the amateur boxer had fallen backwards and hit his head on a wall.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Townsley drove to Mr Baxter's parents house with the intention of confronting him over a family bust up. Mr Baxter was celebrating his fifth wedding anniversary on the night he died.
Last month, a jury at the High Court in Livingston convicted him of culpable homicide. Sentence had been deferred for the court to obtain reports about Townsley's character.
