A LAWYER has won £985 compensation from an airline that failed to fly him and his family from Spain to Scotland on time.

Solicitor Julian Hanrahan, of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, was due to fly back to Edinburgh Airport on a Jet2.com flight with his wife Nicola and son Tom from Murcia in 2011.

But Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard the plane's navigation system had broken down. The flight was delayed for five hours 20 minutes.

Mr Hanrahan argued Jet2.com had failed under European law to provide compensation to passengers whose flights were delayed for more than three hours.

Sheriff Isabella McColl ruled for Mr Hanrahan.
