Legalising drugs ‘may cut crime’

A leading doctor has backed calls to decriminalise drug use in a bid to cut crime and improve health.

Professor Sir Ian Gilmore, the former president of the Royal College of Physicians, said drug laws should be reconsidered.

However, his remarks will be criticised by those who argue that decriminalising drugs would create the mistaken impression that they were not harmful.
