A man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident on a motorway in which another man died.

Murray D'Angelo, 28, was travelling with two other passengers when he got out of the vehicle on the M8 and was struck by two cars travelling between the Hermiston and Gogar junctions on the outskirts of Edinburgh at around 6.16am on Saturday.

Emergency services were called, but Mr D'Angelo died at the scene.

Police said a man has been arrested in connection with an incident which they said happened before the collision.

A Police Scotland statement said: "A 23-year-old man has now been charged with the attempted murder of a 34-year-old man."

He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.
