A WOMAN was left with a serious facial injury after she was attacked by a man in the street.

The 44-year-old was approached by the man in Holm Street, near Wellington Street in Glasgow, at around 3am on Friday. He started talking to her before he assaulted her.

She was taken to the city's Royal Infirmary where she was treated for the facial injury before being released.

The man is described as white, 5ft 9in, with short fair hair. He was wearing a grey hooded top and jeans.

Detective Inspector Craig Willison said: "This was a particularly violent assault on this woman and officers are continuing to study CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on the man responsible."

He urged witnesses to the attack to come forward.
