John Monaghan, 36, struck Gary Vance, 42, with a blade in Cowcaddens, Glasgow, in January.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard yesterday how Monaghan tried to save Mr Vance's life by stopping the bleeding and phoning for an ambulance. But his efforts were in vain. Monaghan, who is originally from the Drumchapel area of Glasgow, originally faced a charge of murder. But he was convicted at the High Court in Dumbarton last month of a reduced charge of culpable homicide.
