POLICE investigating a spate of attacks in which shots were fired at houses and a car have found stolen motorbikes during a raid on a property.

Detectives were led to the house after a tip-off given to Crimewatch as part of their inquiry into the incidents in Gilmerton, Edinburgh.

Officers said yesterday that, although no guns or ammunition were discovered, two motorcycles and other vehicle parts stolen from the Gorgie area of the city were found.

A number of stolen power tools, with a combined value of more than £15,000, were also removed.

Police said they were following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the haul from the address in Craigour Crescent.

DCI Kenny Gray said: "The public continue to provide us with information in relation to the recent incidents in Gilmerton and, as a result, we have been able to recover high-value stolen goods from an address.

"I would like to thank our communities for their continued assistance, which is proving invaluable in tackling serious and organised crime in the capital.

"Recoveries like this send a very clear message to criminals that neither the public nor the police will tolerate their activities and by working together we will bring you to justice."

Police Scotland's Organised Crime Unit has been leading the investigation into the firearms incidents, in which a car in The Murrays Brae and a property in Gilmerton Dykes Drive were both shot at on the evening of September 20.

Police have carried out high-visibility patrols i n the area following the attacks.
