The High Court in Glasgow was told Clive Carter, 35, a security guard at the Holiday Inn Express, took a picture of three women in the bar and chatted to them.
Abigail Gabbert, 21, was at the hotel on Stockwell Street, Glasgow with friends Stephanie O'Brien, Kelly Brown and Beth Robinson for an overnight stay.
Miss Gabbert said she and the other two girls sat in the hotel bar drinking and that they spoke with Carter and he seemed "happy".
She was giving evidence at the trial of Mr Carter, who is accused of committing a breach of the peace at the hotel by pretending he was reacting to a report of a fire and entering Miss O'Brien's room with a fire extinguisher on November 4, 2012.
Mr Carter, from Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, is also charged with murdering Khanokporn Satjawat at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow on November 12, 2012, with a fire extinguisher.
Carter denies the charges. The trial continues.
