Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager have urged a mystery man who called them from a phone box to get in touch.

The body of Jack Doyle, 17, was found at the rear of houses on Hope Street near Antigua Street, Greenock, at around 9.45am on Tuesday, January 3.

He was the nephew of Elaine Doyle, who was killed on her way home from a disco in June 1986 when she was 16. That crime has never been solved.

Police investigating Jack's death said they are keen to hear from a man who called them anonymously several times from a public phone box.

Detective Chief Inspector Duncan Sloan of Greenock CID said: "As it is now almost two months to the day since Jack was murdered, I am re-appealing to the public for their help in tracing the people responsible for his death.

"In particular, I would ask that the man who contacted us on several occasions from a public telephone box in the central area of Greenock to please get in touch with us.

"I would like to reassure him again that any information he passes to us will be treated in complete confidence."

Jack's body was discovered less than two miles from the spot where his aunt was found dead more than 25 years ago.

Detectives last year launched a fresh appeal for information over Elaine's murder on June 1, 1986. She had been strangled and sexually assaulted.
