Number of women involved in drink-related crime soars

Prison research has shown females catching up on males for drink-related offences and a big rise in alcohol consumption among young offenders.

Studies by the Scottish Prison Service show that during 2005-7 one-third of women were reportedly drunk at the time of an offence but this rose to 45% by last year, just four points behind the level of males.
