GPS satellite technology could be used to track convicted criminals in Scotland, such as sex offenders and those involved in domestic abuse cases.

Ministers at Holyrood have launched a consultation on how new technology can be used to improve the monitoring of offenders. It also asks for views on the use of other new technology such as "alcohol bracelets", which take readings from a person's skin to monitor if they have been drinking. Satellite tracking could establish exclusion zones for individual offenders, triggering an alarm if they went to a banned area.
