A PARAMEDIC who admitted to injuring two people when he drove his Scottish Ambulance Service vehicle on the wrong side of the road and smashed into another car will be allowed to carry on driving emergency vehicles, a court has heard.
Alan Buchanan, 59, who previously served as a driver in the Argyll and Highlanders tank regiment, was driving his first responder car, behind an ambulance taking a patient to hospital. He then drifted onto the opposite side of the Roman Road, in Plean, near Stirling, crashing head-on into an estate car.
Buchanan gave the driver and passenger first aid while they waited for a separate ambulance to take them to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.At Stirling Sheriff Court yesterday Sheriff Kenneth Hogg, fined the father-of-four £320. He said: "I'm not going to disqualify you however it is concerning that there is no explanation. Careless driving is defined as a momentary lapse of concentration and I think this is what happened here."
