Alan Buchanan, 59, who previously served as a driver in the Argyll and Highlanders tank regiment, was driving his first responder car, behind an ambulance taking a patient to hospital. He then drifted onto the opposite side of the Roman Road, in Plean, near Stirling, crashing head-on into an estate car.
Buchanan gave the driver and passenger first aid while they waited for a separate ambulance to take them to Forth Valley Royal Hospital. At Stirling Sheriff Court yesterday Sheriff Kenneth Hogg, fined the father-of-four £320. He said: "I'm not going to disqualify you however it is concerning that there is no explanation. Careless driving is defined as a momentary lapse of concentration and I think this is what happened here."
