Police launch inquiry after woman is attacked in park

A POLICE investigation has been launched after a woman was attacked in a park.

The 51-year old was assaulted as she made her way to work early yesterday morning.

Her ordeal began as she walked through the Green Park area of Glasgow Green at around 5.45am.

It is understood a man approached her and assaulted her, before she managed to get away.

Although she did not need hospital treatment, the woman has been left "shaken" by the incident.

Last night, a large police presence remained at Glasgow Green.

Around a dozen forensic officers, wearing protective white suits, were seen carrying out extensive investigations at the scene.

A forensic tent was erected and officers carried out a finger-tip search of the area. Detectives cordoned off a large area of Green Park and a mobile police office, as well as two police vans, remained at the scene.

Officers stood guard as the probe got under way.

Witnesses have been urged to come forward and contact officers. No description of the attacker is currently available.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 51-year-old woman was assaulted in the Green Park area of Glasgow Green at around 5.45am on Sunday January 5.

"She did not require hospital treatment. Inquiries are ongoing."

Meanwhile, a man has been treated for a head injury after he was attacked by a group who stopped and asked him for a cigarette.

The 30-year-old was walking on Govanhill Street, Glasgow, at about 8am yesterday when he was approached by three men.

After saying he did not have any cigarettes, the men followed him and assaulted him on Kingarth Street.

The victim was treated for an injury to his head at Victoria Infirmary.

The attackers were white, aged between 17 to 20, and one had dark brown hair, wore a blue hooded top and has a scar on his face.

The second also had brown hair and was wearing a light-coloured top. The third suspect had red hair.
