Police officers call for drastic reduction in march numbers

The number of marches and parades in Scotland should be drastically cut to single figures, the leader of Scotland’s rank-and-file police officers has said.

Les Gray, chairman of the Scottish Police Federation, yesterday called for parades to be dramatically reduced because of the strain they put on overstretched forces.

He also called for ring-fenced funding for police, and criticised opponents of Taser use .
