Ryan Cameron, 26, sustained a fractured skull in an incident at the Clubhouse Bar in Musselburgh shortly before he struck David McCardle with the barrel.
Cameron and co-accused Ross Tait, 22, were originally charged with murdering Mr McCardle at a vennel in the East Lothian town on August 12 last year.
