SIX men have been arrested in connection with alleged violence and disorder after a football game.

The arrests followed a police investigation into alleged trouble after the Ayrshire derby League Cup tie between Kilmarnock and Ayr United.

The game was played at Kilmarnock's Rugby Park stadium on August 26, with the home side winning 1-0.

Officers went to a number of addresses across Ayrshire today where the men, aged 17, 18, 21, 25, 27 and 28, were arrested and reported to the procurator fiscal.

They have all been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.

Sergeant Colin Convery said: "Police Scotland is committed to delivering a policing plan that will ensure events, such as football matches, take place in a safe environment.

"Violence and disorder on our streets disrupts the lives of our local communities and it will not be tolerated."
