Teenager reported rape after a year

A 14-year-old girl left so traumatised by being raped more than a year ago has only now been able to report the attack to police.

Now aged 15, the girl was victim to what detectives describe as a horrifying ordeal in Drumchapel, Glasgow in December 2011.

She left a friend's house and was on a footpath near Donald Dewar Sports Centre. A man approached her while crossing a bridge and started talking to her. As she got to the entrance of Southdeen Park, he pushed her into an alleyway.

He held her down on the ground and raped her, then ran off in an unknown direction and she made her way home.

The attacker was white, between 40 and 50-years-old, of stocky build and had short brown hair. He was wearing a grey jogging suit and a red Puffa jacket.

On his right thigh he had a tattoo of a ship's steering wheel and an Armani stud in his left ear.

Detective Inspector Dougie McKinlay appealed to the public for information about the attack or the attacker. He said: "This young girl was subjected to a horrifying ordeal and has been left so traumatised by it that she only found the courage to come forward to police last month."

"I appreciate some time has passed, but I am asking people to think back, check their diaries. Would you have been in that area then? Did you attend the Donald Dewar gym around that time? Do you recognise the description of the suspect?"

DI McKinlay urged anyone with information to contact the police.
