Trio accused of murder of young father

THREE men are to stand trial charged with the murder of a young father.

Stuart McCulloch, 17, Fergal Morgan, 22, and Allan Carey, 18, are accused of killing Samuel Johnston at a property in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, last October 26.

It is alleged the 22-year-old was repeatedly punched in the head and body as well being stabbed in the chest with a knife or similar sharp instrument.

Mr McCulloch, of Saltcoats, Mr Morgan, of Drumchapel, Glasgow and Mr Carey, of Ardrossan, Ayrshire, deny murder.

Judge Lady Rae set a trial date for October. The case is expected to last about 10 days.
