THREE men have gone on trial accused of murdering a man in the street after allegedly attacking him with a garden fork or another bladed instrument.

Gary Sim, 21, James Watson, 27, and Paul Watson, 29, deny taking Thomas Lamb's life in the capital and appeared before judge Lord McEwan at the High Court in Edinburgh at the start of their trial.

Prosecutors allege that on September 19 and 20 2014, at the Tor pub in Restalrig Road, Mr Sim pushed Mr Lamb and caused him to fall to the ground. Mr Sim then allegedly caused Mr Lamb's head to strike against a table and chair.

It is alleged later, at Restalrig Circus, the three men repeatedly struck Mr Lamb on the head and body. It is alleged they repeatedly kicked and jumped on Mr Lamb's head and body before repeatedly striking him "with a garden fork, knife or other similar sharply pointed or bladed instrument."

The court heard Mr Lamb sustained multiple stab wounds. The first witness is due to be called today.
